Hey! I just found the blog and absolutely love it! Was wondering if you had any knowledge about attaching chainmaille to leather? I'm making a leather chest piece but want the shoulders to be just chainmaile, but I'm just infuriated with try and fail
Thanks for the barrage of likes and reblogs :D As for attaching chainmaille to leather, this is what I did a while ago for my sleeve, I used steel rings at the top of the 4 in 1 threaded through holes in the leather. They problems with this method is that I didn’t have a proper hole punch, so it was not only difficult to do it’s a bit wonky. It also isn’t the most structural, I don’t think that the leather is going to tear any time soon, but it’s certainly putting a lot of stress on it.
More recently I met someone in town who makes leather, so instead of ordering it online like this piece I was able to go over to his place and get exactly what I want. I’ve got a loin cloth that I haven’t taken proper pictures of yet, but stick around and you’ll see it. For that one my leather worker was able to put eyelets along the bottom edge of the belt, kind of like the ones you have in shoes for laces. That way the steel rings I attached the chain with have a nice sturdy hole to hang in, and it looks awesome.
